WESTERN Australia’s leading ladies have been shining bright in the name of charity.

Making their debut as part of the Women’s Cancer Foundation – Ovarian Institute via the Teal Pants campaign, Team WA has registered 20 wins since the scheme began on February 1.

Victoria and New South Wales had been running the fundraiser for several years, and thanks to help from Harness Racing Australia, the Teal Pants campaign has gone national this season.

Money is raised via each state’s governing bodies, along with corporate sponsors, which are donating a set amount per win.

As for WA’s stars, they are excited to be a part of such an important cause according to popular identity Jocelyn Young.

“It is great to be involved in such a wonderful fundraiser and everyone here is right behind it,” Young said. “I’ve been lucky enough to bring home a win which is wonderful as it’s an amazing cause.

“We’ve only got a small team in Western Australia, but we are doing our best and are certainly pushing to add to the tally before it ends on March 11.”

One positive Young has quickly noted is the extra awareness the teal pants is bringing to ovarian cancer, which has a devastatingly low survival rate.

“It has certainly raised awareness in ovarian cancer over here,” Young said. “People are asking us ‘why the pants?’ all the time.

“Getting more wins is the goal to lift the fundraising, but that awareness has become just as powerful.”
