2Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) was saddened to learn of the passing last Saturday of one of its most loved former employees, John Wilson.

John commenced as a patrol steward with the Trotting Control Board in 1976 and served with distinction until his retirement from Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) as a senior stipendiary steward in 2002.

Prior to the commencement of his stewarding career, John was a well-regarded jockey and later, thoroughbred trainer. He was known for the meticulous condition in which his horses were presented to the races and the manner in which his stables were maintained.

HRV sends its sincere condolences to his wife Marion, children Susan and David, and his extended family.

The funeral for John, or “JW” as he was affectionately known, will be held at Flemington Racecourse in the committee room on Friday, June 3, at 11am.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to to the Cancer Council of Victoria. Envelopes will be available at the racecourse.
