The next Puppets, Candymen, Wonder Women and Group 1 Gavs will be guided through a valuable workshop to fast-track their driving careers.

The Association of Victorian Country Harness Racing Clubs (AVCHRC) and Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) are co-sponsoring the Concession Drivers’ Workshop, when tactics and business management will be top of the agenda.

Association CEO David Brick said the workshop would be a valuable opportunity for concession drivers to learn from the best in the business.

“To have Chris Alford and Greg Sugars provide insight into race preparation and tactics is an outstanding opportunity for the junior drivers,” Mr Brick said.

“This is a not-to-be-missed forum, which will help the drivers set the foundation for their careers not only on the track but off the track.”

The workshop, which is at Bendigo Harness Racing Club from 10.30am-1.30pm on Wednesday, April 5, will also offer a session on business management basics for drivers, presented by Paul Dobson of SBG Accountants.

The pilot program was instigated by the association in conjunction with Harness Racing Advisory Council member Craig Nott, who will be on hand to guide discussion on race tactics and preparation.

“The workshop is the next phase in our commitment to developing new and emerging participants,” Mr Brick said.

All concession drivers who attend will receive a fuel voucher, a Garrards gift and lunch.

The industry groups and partners, including Bendigo’s Harness Racing Training Centre, have also developed a framework that ensures monthly concession drivers’ races are programmed and the association offers a Professional Development Award, which gifts one concession driver a $1500 travel voucher to attend a trots event.

Concession drivers should contact Rose Nadile (rnadile@hrv.org.au or 8378 0283) by March 27 to confirm their attendance. Any queries to David Brick on 0417 562 870.
