New Year’s Eve at Alexandra Park

Alexandra Park will see a return to tradition this New Year’s Eve.

Not only will the club play host to the running of three Group One features, but families and racegoers are encouraged to stay on after the last race this Sunday to experience a fantastic fireworks display. There will also be live music in The Alex Bar following the racing action.

Whilst there are limited seats left in the premium package dining options, there will be plenty of room oncourse with food trucks and street food on offer from 2pm (first race is 2.04pm) and walk up dining options from The Alex Bar and Eatery and Lyell Creek Lounge.

Family entertainment is a focus on the day too, with face painting and activities and of course the fireworks display. Parking, entry and race books are all free.

Interest in the meeting already has been huge.

“We have had about three times the bookings than last year for our member’s area, which is really great to see,” said Corporate Sales and Sponsorship Manager, Kate Fill-Wilson. “Interest in this race meeting has been really high and our hospitality packages have sold out very quickly. But there is plenty for everyone on the day and we encourage people to bring the family along and see out 2017 with us.”

Cambridge Raceway Friday 29 December

Waikato Bay of Plenty Harness will see out 2017 with a nine race card this Friday, starting at 5.32pm. The meeting will also host the Friday night Pick Six, guaranteed to $25,000 if struck. Entry to the course as always is free.

Coinciding with the Waikato Greyhound Racing Club, the dual code meeting also offers plenty of racing entertainment, and the Alfresco Bites Food Truck market will be oncourse with food for every mood.

Arna Donnelly will also line up Volando Denario, her HRNZ holiday horse to follow, in race five. The three-year-old daughter of Panspacificflight was impressive winning on debut at Cambridge on December 6 and looks a strong chance despite being only one of two fillies against the older mares.

The final race of the night is named for the upcoming Waikato Kidz Kartz three day course to be held on January 8,9,10. Limited spaces are available on this course, and experience is not essential.

For children aged 9 to 16, they will learn to drive ponies in the cart and education is focused around long reining, gearing up, safety, general care of a pony and having heaps of fun. There will be visits from an equine dentist, vet and local farrier with graduation races held on Friday 12th January 2018.

The course cost is $200. For more information contact Peter Ferguson: fergieandwendy69@gmail.com or phone 07 827 6913.
