IN-FORM pacer Nicol Shard is expected to maintain his perfect South Australian record when he heads to Globe Derby tomorrow night.

Transferred to prominent horsewoman Dani Hill last month, Nicol Shard is unbeaten from two starts since arriving from Victoria.

The son of Somebeachsomewhere – which lost his battle with cancer earlier this week – also won his last outing in Victoria.

“He has done a great job since he got here and obviously we couldn’t ask for more from him,” Hill said.

Given a freshen up following his January 13 win, Nicol Shard will begin from barrier five, with Hill confident the gelding can overcome the awkward draw.

In fact, Hill issued a warning to Nicol Shard’s rivals.

“It’s a pretty even race and a test for him, but I’ve got no doubt he can win from there,” Hill said. “He was given a little break after his last win and has just thrived since.

“His track work has picked up and he feels better than he ever has.

“I’m very happy with him and expect him to be better again this weekend.”
