6The 2016 Queensland winter carnival comes to end this weekend with the running of the Gr.3 $30,000 Moreton Bay Regional Council Redcliffe Gold Cup.

So action heads north of Brisbane this Saturday night.

The Redcliffe Gold Cup was first staged back in 1964 and the event is steeped in history with the likes of Paleface Adios, Don’t Retreat and Roma Hanover all being winners of the great race.

In recent times, winners include Medowie Prince, Shipps Fire, Atitagain, Hexus and I Am Sam among others.

Leading horseman Grant Dixon has dominated the event winning the past three editions with Only The Brave, Majestic Major and last year with Alleluia.

Another quality line-up will chase the prize this weekend and the Dixon stable is well represented with four runners including the defending champ in Alleluia.

Classy mare Barynya is aiming for another feature race triumph following her dominant all the way victory last week in the Chris Garrard’s Patrons Purse while quality performers Mach Alert and Glenferrie Hood also command respect.

Gambling giant UBET are offering several jackpots throughout the program including a guaranteed $50,000 First 4 pool on the opening race plus a $10,000 jackpot.

A Quadrella jackpot of $17,113 is also slated; the quaddie will be staged on races 2, 3, 4 & 5.

The quaddie pool is expected to exceed $100,000.

Again, the quaddie legs look open with several even races assembled meaning punters will get great value.

Jackpot F4 pools of $2000 are also planned for the feature events, the Gold Cup and the Oaks – races 5 and 6.

The Listed $25,000 Hustler Redcliffe Oaks has attracted a quality line-up which includes the likes of Get In The Groove, Zaras Delight, Cherish The Moment, Covert Beauty and Vinland.

Neon Sky is the lone runner from across the border, the Amanda Turnbull prepared filly scored an easy victory last week on the track and will again be handled by Isobel Ross.

The first of 8 races is scheduled to start at 5.13pm.
