THE Bathurst Harness Racing Club, nationally recognised for its work in encouraging more and more people to come to their showcase Paceway, has just launched another product that is certain to add to their reputation for innovation and energy.

They recently launched their eight-day ‘Harness the History’ tour of Bathurst, built around the Gold Crown Carnival.

The Club is targeting intra and interstate, as well as international visitors.

In partnership with Panorama Cruise and Travel, the Club has put together a remarkable tour that is certain to create a significant amount of interest.

From the time visitors are either picked up at Sydney Airport or arrive by their own transport on Saturday, 24th March 2018, the tourists will:

  • Attend all Gold Crown Carnival race meetings as guests of the Club in their famous VIP trackside marquee.
  • Tour the internationally recognised Mayfield Gardens (http://mayfieldgarden.com.au), with over 50 full time staff, possibly the largest privately owned cool climate in the Southern Hemisphere.
  • On return from the Gardens tour, visitors will be taken on a lap of the world-famous Mount Panorama racing circuit as well as be given insights into Wahluu (the traditional name of Mount Panorama) and the importance of the area to the local Wiradjuri people.
  • Attend all Carnival off-track social activities, including the Gold Crown Barrier Draw and Calcutta Dinner, the Bathurst Gold Crown Honouree Dinner and the Miss Gold Crown Cocktail Reception.
  • Enjoy a private historic tour of Bathurst, Australia’s oldest inland settlement.
  • Visit The Lagoon, home of the legendary Turnbull clan, where so much harness racing history has been made and enjoy a famous home-made country morning tea.
  • Visit Brooklyn Lodge, one of the biggest standard bred breeding facilities in Western NSW and enjoy the renowned hospitality of Doug and Janet Moore and Ben and Melanie Settree.
  • Tour historic Hill End which was originally settled in the 1850s as a gold mining town but was really put on the map in October 1872 with the discovery of the world’s largest gold nugget in the Star of Hope mine which weighed in at 286kg. Hill End is now a living museum where you can walk the streets just as they were in the famous Gold Rush days of the 19th century.
  • Tour the famous Cowra Japanese Gardens and visit the World War II Prisoner of War Camp.
  • Enjoy a private walking tour of the centre of Bathurst where you will learn about the history of the 1830s Ribbon Gang bushrangers; what it was like to attend school more than 140 years ago and the intricate design thinking that went into Machattie Park.
  • Visit the remarkable Abercrombie House which just happens to be a 51 roomed Scottish baronial castle with seven staircases, 31 fireplaces and gold leaf 8.1m ceilings in the ballroom. This amazing home today belongs to the local Morgan family and was built in 1878 from blue stone granite and sandstone.

So, what a wonderful time visitors on this tour will have, both at the track and all around the beautiful Central West of NSW, including one of its main cities, the historic and fascinating Bathurst.
