This is the twelfth of an occasional series of articles reviewing multiple classic producing broodmares with five or more offspring in results information as shown on the Classic Families (CF) database. A number of these mares won classic races, became the dams of classic winners/progeny and contributed to the genetic inheritance of numerous outstanding performers.

Sire Magnus Apollo (Tar Heel/Meadow Con by Adios) was a late 1960’s product of Hanover Shoe Farms in Pennsylvania who had a modest best time of 2:01.0, $94,422.  He sired 161 winners in Australia including Marmalade Girl (SA Breeders Plate, SA/Gawler Oaks), Tonka Apollo (1:58.1TT Mildura/Wangaratta Cups). Leading broodmare sire of trotters in Australia in 1997, his 140 broodmare credits included NSW Trotters Derby winner Astrud, Colbruce (1:54.0TT, VIC SS -2c/3c/4h), Georgian Flight (VIC SS – 3T), Lord Muckalee (ID heat), Magnum Skipper (NSW SS – 3) and outstanding trotter , Wagon Apollo (T1:57.1TT, $475,117, Redwood/Tatlow – 2T, VIC Trotters Derby, VIC SS – 3T/4T, AUST Trotting Championship, Rowe Cup, Dullard/Cochran (twice) Cups, ID Trotters heats (four), and progeny of Late Withdrawal as below.
