The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has announced the appointment of Peter Jensen as Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Jensen will take up the role on 02 October 2017, following a successful tenure as Chief Executive of Southern Response, the government-owned company responsible for settling Canterbury earthquake insurance claims.

New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club Chair, Barry Dent, said he and the Board are delighted to announce Peter’s appointment.

“Peter is a long-term supporter of harness racing and this was a great opportunity for us to appoint someone of his calibre, who is passionate about our sector.

Peter’s extensive strategic, commercial experience and strong local and national relationships are exactly what we need as we continue to grow all aspects of the Club, in the current environment.

Born and bred in Christchurch, Peter’s commitment to the city and the region is evident from his roles with organisations at the heart of the rebuild, including Southern Response.

Under Peter’s leadership we are looking forward to the continued success of the Club and long term future of harness racing in Christchurch.”

“Peter replaces Dean McKenzie, our current Chief Executive. Dean and his team have worked tirelessly for the betterment of the Club and harness racing in general with increased returns to stakeholders of over 34% over the last five and a half years.

Initiatives such as the opening of Spectators Bar in 2013, the launch of the KPC in 2014, the installation of the big screen in 2015, and the recent release of state of the art sectional timing project StrideMASTER have maintained the prestige status of the Club.” Dent added.

Addington Raceway’s current General Manger Operations, Brian Thompson, has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive from 15 July until 1 October 2017.
