A very good harness racing man and a good mate called me today to ask what he thought was a simple question…who is the best North American stallion available down here, based on his NA data/results?

This is almost a ridiculous question (and if it wasn’t a mate asking, l wouldn’t have taken up the challenge) so l should know better than trying to answer it. However, like most things l will give it my best shot.

Now, before l launch into working out an answer, any of the 4 stallions l’m about to mention ( Rocknroll Hanover was ruled out, as we don’t have frozen in AUS) are at the very top of our sport.  So for many of us, it’s all about what mare we have and who she would suit. This to me is far more important than trying to rank the best stallions in our sport…anyway on we go with looking for the answer.

The tables I’ve used below are the top 15 progeny of each stallion born from 2010 on.  Noting Somebeachsomewhere is the youngest and that 2010 season was his very first crop, it’s so hard trying to compare apples with apples. This was the best way l could think of with the time l had allocated, so sorry in advance if you don’t agree with the ground rules. The way l read the results (and as its NA progeny only), Somebeachsomewhere is the stand out, however, the complete list of stallions have done an outstanding job in my view. Bettors Delight fans (and l am one ) may be surprised that he hasn’t been ranked No 1.

If the tables below were to include southern hemisphere offspring  the results could well be very different.  Please see my list below, however, l would love to know how our followers would rank the stallions shown. So if you’re up to the challenge, please tell us your top 4 and why.
